Donating Books to the Friends

The Friends of the Library are currently accepting donations of used books published after 2005 that are in good to excellent condition and DVDs.

PLEASE NOTE:

The Friends’ DO NOT accept the following:

  • Religious materials
  • Reader’s Digest Condensed Books
  • Cookbooks
  • Textbooks
  • Encyclopedias
  • Magazines (including National Geographic)
  • Videos (VHS)
  • Cassette tapes (music or books on cassette)
  • Badly worn, musty or water damaged books

These items don’t see a strong demand at Friends’ sales and, with limited volunteers, they cannot be easily passed on to another not-for-profit.  (While Goodwill and Savers in Bristol have both closed, Goodwill Donation Centers are open in Torrington, CT, Waterbury, CT and Plainville, CT.  Follow the links for contact information and donation windows.)

If you have a large amount of books to donate, please call the library at (860) 582-3121 to make special arrangements for drop-off.  We are happy to accept large donations at a mutually convenient time.

Other Fundraising Activities

The Friends of the Library support many children’s, teens, and adult activities at the library including author talks, children’s, teen and adult programs, and the Museum Pass program.

Throughout the year, we hold semi-annual bag sales, bake sales, basket raffles, recipe jars, and a Spring Tea Party.
