The Friends of the Library Book Sales are suspended at this time.
You can also find your favorite authors and books at great prices at the Friends’ ongoing book sale within the library! Visit during the library’s open hours. Prices from .25 to $2.00/book. Books included in the ongoing sale are located in the foyer and stairwell.
Donating Books to the Friends
The Friends of the Library is transitioning to a smaller storage space, and as a result, until further notice, book donations cannot be accepted.
(While Goodwill and Savers in Bristol have both closed, Goodwill Donation Centers are open in Torrington, CT, Waterbury, CT and Plainville, CT. Follow the links for contact information and donation windows.)
When the donation program resumes, please note the following:
Typically, the Friends gratefully accept donations of used books that are in good to excellent condition. The most desirable donations are recent publications and DVDs.
The Friends’ DO NOT accept the following:
- Religious materials
- Reader’s Digest Condensed Books
- Magazines (including National Geographic)
- Videos (VHS)
- Cassette tapes (music or books on cassette)
- Badly worn, musty or water damaged books
These items don’t see a strong demand at the Booktique and, with limited volunteers, they cannot be easily passed on to another not-for-profit. (While Goodwill and Savers in Bristol have both closed, Goodwill Donation Centers are open in Torrington, CT, Waterbury, CT and Plainville, CT. Follow the links for contact information and donation windows.)
If you have a large amount of books to donate, please call the library at (860) 582-3121 to make special arrangements for drop-off. We are happy to accept large donations at a mutually convenient time.
Other Fundraising Activities
The Friends of the Library support many children’s, teens, and adult activities at the library including author talks, children’s, teen and adult programs, and the Museum Pass service.
Throughout the year, we hold semi-annual bag sales, bake sales, basket raffles, a cookie walk, and a May Tea Party.
