Solar Observing

June 8 @ 10:30 am - 11:30 am

Join Laurie Averill and the Astronomical Society of New Haven to learn about our star the Sun and, weather permitting, view it safely using a filtered telescope or a projection.  The Sun is stormy during this period of high activity, so we should be able to see Solar storms—Sun spots, filaments and prominences in person or in images streamed through NASA satellites. The Sun’s creates space weather for our entire Solar system. When Coronal Mass Ejections from massive Solar storms unleash streams of ionized particles, they fuel auroras and, when powerful enough, can disrupt not only satellites and space stations, but also earth-based communications and electricity-distribution systems. **This program will be outside in the rear parking lot of the Library, weather permitting.**
